We have a 2005 Arc auto and manual. By and large, the automatic seems better suited to the car. The manual gives better gas mileage and is an ok unit but it's average at best in terms of shifter and clutch feel. You gain the benefit of a more engaging experience but personally, if I was continually in stop and go traffic or high city use, I would opt for the auto. I understand that the Aero stick shift might be a bit different than the Arc manual - I don't know if anyone can confirm that but it's an intriguing concept (designed for more torque?). I find that engaging first causes a fair amount of vibration unless you do it just right. First and second don't take full advantage of the turbo (have heard controlling emissions and/or wheel spin was the objective) but once you engage third, you can spool up the turbo real nice like. In the fall, I drained and refilled the tranny use GM oil. What I believe was ~5% overfill gave it a slicker feel, validated by a later post I saw where someone said a technician they talked to regularly slightly overfilled the units. Perhaps ZF's original fill spec was a bit on the meagre side.
