Our first 9-5 has ventilated seats / they work well in hot weather. However there is some noise associated with them. Also there is some wear through the holes - fibers come through - however not nearly as bad as my past MB with perforated seats.
My other 9-5 does not have ventilated seats and they are bit warmer in the summer - but for Pennsylvania they are just fine.
I generally do not drive more than 2 hours so I can't comment about longer time periods.
My previous 9000 Aero had unique looking and comfortable seats. I don't think that headrest style would easily have been adapted to the new whiplash system. Also the distinguishing bolstering on the side of the previous model Aero probably had 'issues' with the side airbag.
If I was making the choice regarding the seat I would base it on how much driving you do in hot weather. I find the ACC to do a good job keeping the car comfortable.
Good luck with your car.

PS - Also the shots at GM are really odd. I find the benefit of a whiplash system on this generation 9-5 to be a significant contributor to the overall real life safety of the vehicle.
