Did you get this to work? One thing you didn't mention is whether the heat was out on one or both sides of the car. If just one side, sounds like blend door issue. If both, bad thermostat or something along those lines (heater core...). I fixed my blend door a couple of months ago but then lost heat again about a month later (when it was 15 below here). I disconnected the step motor from the blend door arm and used some rubber vacuum hose to keep the blend door in the 5 p.m. position (full heat). Works like a charm. I can control the temp via the blower fan and will move the door back in the other direction (2 p.m.) when summer arrives.
