Thanks for the input.
Did it. Just took the gamble and tapped the hex bit in a bit further past the softened part of the bolt and voila! She turned!
Anyway, that was all well and good, but what a crappy job that thing is to change.
Took a few hours and several beer stops but got it out from the top.
For those that do this the three things that IMHO are critical are;
1. Be prepared to move the engine around to make room.
2. File back the edge of the intake for that extra millimeter.
3. Allow the whole day if you do not have access to a hoist.
There were lots of issues with mine too as the battery became suspect after not having been charged etc, but all is good now.
