SAI Pump Source Update For You V6 Owners Posted by Joe [Email] (#444) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Joe) on Mon, 28 Nov 2016 07:54:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Like many V6 owners we've (a friend and I, he has a V6, I have a 2.3) dealt with the SAI pump failing and then trying to find a good used one since the new Saab ones are so pricey.
Long story short, thanks to Google and a hunch we discovered the SAI pump from a 2001 Chevrolet Impala is, except for the wiring connector, the exact same pump. From the interchange it looks like 2000-2002 will work. We pulled a perfectly working one from the junkyard this weekend ($12!) and compared them side by side - same thing, same inlets, same mounting bosses, same everything except the connector. Even a new one looks to be less than $100. Swap the end of the wiring and shazzam you have a good working affordable SAI pump.
In an Impala they are behind the driver's headlight. Bring a socket set, 10-12mm'ish, you have to remove a bracket to get the pump out (we didn't and had to rip the bracket from the frame but fortunately it was rusted). Not sure what is needed to remove the headlight, it was already out. Below is the list from Amazon of cars this model fits, 2000-2002 and the part numbers. Hope this helps!
