Right ( passenger) blend door woes

2003 9-5 125K miles. ACC codes 11 (right) and 13. Driver's (Left) side normal. Hot air blasting out the Right (pass.) and rear vents as well as jammed air circulation stepper motor. Fixed the latter by pushing shaft in, and have a broken right blend door lever with a new one on order. With ACC set at LO, If I pull the metal rod to the rear vents all the way up, cold air comes out the rear, but no matter what I do, passenger vents still blow hot air. I can turn the blue shaft in the heater box with the right amount of resistance, stepper motor all good. Want to fix temporarily until the new lever comes but can't figure out how to stop hot air from blowing out the passenger side in cabin, even with ACC off Summer's here and it's hot!
So, does the metal rod from the white plastic lever control the air blending for both the rear vents AND passenger side? If so, what does the blue shaft leading to the drum on the heater box control? I must be missing something here as I fear that even with the new lever, I will still be blowing hot air from the passenger side.
