There is not much stretch on the cable, so although you may be able to get the old cable off. It will be a real struggle to get the new one on from the top. Plus, if you are like me, you are going to drop the alternator and starter nuts onto the ground or into the subframe a few time before you get them started onto their studs. That process is so much easier if you are under the car, that I would buy jack stands (Harbor Freight?) to do this job if I didn't have them.
