Front Brakes Dragging - HOT!

Discovered today the source of hot smell coming from front of car ( 2001 Aero Wagon ).
After a half hour commute at city speeds discovered that front brake rotors were seriously hot. Front brakes only - not the back. Left front hotter then right side.
The pads must be dragging on rotors!
I noticed the hot smell after city commutes 2-3 weeks ago and was half certain that I was getting poorer gas milage then usual - now I know why.
There has not been any work done to the car or brakes prior to this problem starting.
What would cause the front brake pads to drag on rotors?
What's the fix?
Thanks very much!
