So the problem turns out to be broken wires in the engine compartment - about 12 inches back from the connector to the reversing light switch. The problem is that it broke fairly close to where the wires enter the main wiring loom so I don’t have a lot of slack to work with and it’s a very awkward area to access. I have taken off the battery tray and fuse box but that doesn’t help much. I can get one hand to the broken wire - either from above or through the fender after taking a wheel off - but not both. I haven’t found an electrical connector yet that I can make work one-handed!
Think I’m going to take a break and wait for inspiration to strike, but if anybody has thoughts as to a solution, I am listening!
