I distinctly remember that when I got my new 2002 Aero SportWagon.
but back to the original query...
The 9-5 is a so much nicer car. The 2004 9-3 Aero that I put good miles on was unquestionably more fun to drive (i.e., responsiveness and handling), but the 9-5 is nicer in every other way, although that comes in a bigger package. I'm assuming that the later 9-3's with the 2.0 had similar power as that 2004 Aero, but not necessarily the sport suspension. The later Aero's with the V-6 would have had significantly more power but also more front-end weight, although I've never driven one to compare.
