How long do front struts usually last? My '01 wagon has 225k miles on the original struts, mostly highway driving, and as far as I can tell, they still seem firm when I try to bounce the front end as a check.
I did replace the rear shocks about 100k ago after doing the bounce test but I'm wondering about the front struts just because of the mileage. Or is there a better way to check? I'd hate to spend the money if it's not necessary and I don't think I'd want to do the work myself.
Just for the heck of it I once tried to loosen the bolts at the top of the mounts under the hood but I couldn't budge them and was afraid I'd break them off.
