Engine clean after diesel leak

MY2009 1.9TDi - I have just had a load of diesel from the tube that links the inlet manifold/swirl nchambers to the fuel feed resulting in masses of fumes/smoke, and lots of diesel everywhere, soaking the insulation of the engine cover and lots of diesel between the cam cover (the injector well) and of course all over the engine.
Questions are, do I use a jet wash, should I spray with a degreaser first, what about the electrics, I've just had a new alternator fitted, would that be compromised, etc.....
Second question, when the old alternator failed (and battery died), it seems to have caused a problem with the air-con compressor as I no longer have aircon (PITA as I just had it recharged for the summer) so would the alternator fail also have caused the compressor to fail or should I look elsewhere? Not many SAAB mechanics in France.........
TIA
Mark
