I finally got around to doing this job... Thanks to all for the input/advise.. it was priceless..
I ended up putting some paver blocks under the jackstands to get some additional height.. and I had a few safeties added.. just in case!
The biggest challenge was cutting out the old bushing casings... due mostly to the limited clearance .. I was able to get the sawzall into the mid bushings .. but the rears were tougher.. with limited angle/access... So I used a dremmel cutting wheel, and eventually peeled the liner/casing away..but it was no picnic!
The new rear bushings popped in with no issues. just made sure to grease them up, especially the top edge of the frame where they get pushed through..
The mid's were tougher, but after a bit of a struggle, I cut them in half, as suggested..
To get the additional clearance needed to fit in the new bushings, I removed the strut cover plate, loosened the rear motor mount nut.. and loosened the 2 bolts for the steering rack.. which gave me just enough room to slide the new bushing in.
The rear bushing were totally shot, and i was able to move with just my fingers.. No need to drill them out. The mid bushings near the struts were in bad shape as well..
Net result.. very noticeable improvement in handling, as well as accelerating from a dead stop..
thanks to all .. once again !
Mike
