The intermediate flex pipe rusted out, so I ordered a new one. Before dropping it off at the shop, I decided to take a closer look and make sure nothing else was wrong. Turns out some previous owner welded the end of the cat directly to the intermediate pipe. So there's no flange there anymore to mate up with new pipe. The support bar that hooks onto the rubber hangers is also missing. Otherwise the cat looks ok.
Would you buy a new cat for about $300, or would you ask the shop to cut up the new pipe and weld it like the old pipe was? Keeping in mind I'll pay some extra labour for this welding, and even more if I want them to fix the hanger issue.
