Moulding around windshield is chipped, cracked

Just had the windshield replaced by Safelite. Seems like they did a reasonable job. There is something I am wondering about. At the bottom of the windshield exterior, there is a black molding (for lack of a better word) that has a number of small cracks (probably from age) and has a few voids in it. I am fairly certain the voids were made when the windshield was replaced.
My question is what can I use to fill in the voids, and as a general question, what can I put over the lower molding cracks to repair/slow down the (apparent) decay from the sun?
