Based on the symptoms as I understand them, yes I believe that the check engine light and "coil code" are separate from the sluggishness.
Yes the black cassette used in the 9-3 is the same as that used in the 9-5
It's seems that the coil issue has been resolved by using the known good DIC from your 9-3.
At this point I suggest that you rescan the 9-5 to confirm that there are no pending OBD II codes.
And of course a full scan using a tech 2 is called for.
