Shifter Collar companion flange (lockout)

Hi all,
I'm pretty sure the companion flange gave up the ghost today on my 01 aero. The plastic part that resides inside the shifter knob seems to have fallen about 1/2-3/4", and I'm now always able to put the car in reverse (pulling up does nothing, and it is not lined up with the knob, you'd have to spin it slightly to get it to line up so you could pull it up). Still shifts fine, but makes 5th a bit more of a challenge.
One tiny plastic part fell out of the knob when this happened. I'm assuming that is probably one of the top tabs on the flange.
Question is - does this sound right? And... How hard is it to tear this apart? I've got the wood knob, so I want to be careful getting the knob off. And I'm curious if I likely ONLY need part 4579793 or if I might also need the lockout mechanism at the bottom as well (4490314).
If anyone wants to give me the procedure for replacement, I'd love that. I'm pretty handy, but there are sometimes tricks you never know until you do it.
Thanks in advance!
