Following the board's advice I've had EBC Greenstuff front brake pads installed on my '02 Aero. It seems that the 02s use the same front brake pads as previous years and that they are shared with the Opel/Vauxhall(GM) Vectra/Calibra vehicles we get here in the UK.
My Aero has only about 7,000 miles on it and the stock pads had already scored the rotors a fair amount - understandably the new pads took a while to bed in - in fact brake performance was the worrying end of poor for the 1st 100 miles. Now the 'bite' in braking performance has returned.
After 300 miles the front wheels are still clean - that'll do for me.
I'm not sure you would want to fit the pads at home - the brake Caliper Bolts are abnormally big 'Torx' headed items - and Saab must have got a special deal on Blue Loctite as the mechanic had a 3ft extension on his socket bar to undo the bolts - they were very, very tight - the loctite was visible all the way up the bolt - even under the head.
Its intersting to note that the EBC-Greenstuff pads have a visible Kevlar/Copper compound (the stock items have flakes of steel in them) - hence EBC's claims to negligble rotor wear.
If you have an '02 and the black dust covered front wheels syndrome is driving you nuts - get the EBCs.
