came from the oil pump O-ring?
The NG900 (and probably 9-3) is no problem at all to remove cover with engine still in place.
But as for the 9-5 I'm working on now, I had to drop the whole subframe with steering rack, engine and radiator/intercooler/A/C condenser. To get to the engine.
It was no room to pull the engine sideways to unhook it from the transmission while still in car. And probably no room to get the timing cover off either.
So as in your case, it's possible to lower the engine/subframe down to a level where the timing cover is accessible and the radiator is still hooked up to the engine/waterpump.
After that you unbolt the water pump from engine with radiator hoses still attached and in that way keep the coolant in engine while doing the timing cover.
It's a heck of a big package that comes down on the floor.
