Little known tidbit on the Valentine One. You don't have to pay $399 for a new one. You can get a refurbished one from Valentine for less, and it carries the same warranty. Basically, it's open box returns that they can't sell new. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine bought a V1 this way (rev B, I think they were called). I think he paid either $299 or $349 for it-a little discount, but that puts it in the same price range as the 8500.

And the 8500 is still not as good as the V1, IMHO. Sure, it beeps like the rest of them, but the V1's arrows will tell you if the cop is behind you coming up fast or in front of you lying in wait. Down here in New Orleans, I can pick up Ka signals on the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway (world's longest bridge) for over 4 miles when the cops leave their guns on.

I don't work for Valentine, either-but I stand behind their product as a satisfied customer for over 9 years. My Valentine has been upgraded to the latest specs-so it's not obsolete when the latest hardware comes out-unlike the latest Escort and its predecessors.

'82 Original Escort (in a closet)
'89 CW Escort (stolen)
'91 Original Passport (the best in its day, now sits in closet)
'94 V1 (upgraded, sold)
'99 V1 (with latest specs)

'94 900SET w/136k miles
'01 9-5 LPT wagon w/19.3k miles
