NOT increase max boost by adjusting the wastegate actuator on a T-5 car.
What will happen is that the rate of change of boost will increase and the
throttle response will get more "peaky". Initially, you may get an indication
that the max boost is higher, but as the Trionic unit adapts max boost will be
reduced to the level before the adjustment.
The max boost is determined from a preset level, but that level has nothing to do
with base boost. The ECU determines boost pressure from the MAP (manifold ABSOLUTE
presure) sensor. This pressure-to-voltage converter supplies the ECU with
a voltage that is proportional to pressure. This voltage is compared to a
preset value stored in the ECU's ROM.
The ECU has absolutly NO knowledge of base boost.
If you don't believe me, try it. Make sure you have a calibrated pressure/vacumm
gauge. Measure max boost in 3rd gear at 3500 rpm under full throttle.
Tighten up the wastegate rod 3-4 turns.
Measure max boost again.
Go through the Trionic adaptation routine, multiple full throttle acceleration runs of at least 3 seconds between 2750 and 3250 (3750-4250 for an auto) rpm.
Measure max boost again.
I will bet your load of crap that the max boost will be within 1 psi or so
of it's previous value
