Sorry to sense your disgust with Volvo in your note.
A year and a half ago, I had an minor accident in my '93 850 (185K miles)that ended up totaled because of the age and milage, though I was anticipating another 100K.
At that time I looked at both V70 T-5s and 9-5 Aero Wagons. With the manufacturer's rebates, the Saab was $3K to $5K less, and I think a much better ride. The only thing I gave up were the Volvo seats that fit me better than the Saab seats. At the time, late in the model year, I could not get a manual transmission anywhere in the U.S. on any model V70, and the couple of Volvo dealerships I spoke to, were not in a dealing mood.
Now after 18 months and 41K miles, I still anticipate getting into my Aero for a drive anywhere! My only disappointment with the Aero is that I couldn't wait until the 2002 models came out, with improved suspension and HID headlights.
As I alluded to above there were some significant changes that came in 2002, the suspension changes were the most significant in my book, making all models ride and handle more like the Aero.
I STRONGLY recommend the 9-5 to friends, even Volvo drivers! E-mail me if you want a more detailed discussion.
Good Luck,
Keith Porter
