The part about the speed ratng I agree with in some cases, but changing the aspect ratio from a .55 to a higher value just to theoretically save money on tires might not be that wise. Not only might you not be able to get the speedometer/odometer calibration correct( since Saab might not have put that range of adjustment in the software thinking that no one would do this),a taller tire brings with it handling vices such as sloppy steering response. If that is what you wanted in the first place,Ford has a nice Taurus for you. Sticking with a lower than V speed rating is in my opinion not a problem as long as your car is not leased( leasing companies require you to maintain the original specs of the tire that was supplied with the car when new), and you plan on staying within the speeds listed for the tire you select. The real trouble in my opinion is that due to marketing considerations, the tires that get tested to certify to a higher speed rating are the ones that get the best engineering and design, the best rubber compounds that perform well in wider temperature rangs, and other features that make them sell for more. So, if you are selecting a tire that is limited to the H rating, the speed that covers( 130) might be more than enough for your needs, but how will you know about the other charecteristics of the tire that might matter, such as construction, rubber compounds etc? Chances are that good stuff will be in the tires that sell for more, and have to carry the higher speed ratings, since they will need that to sell to those who do look for that. It's just a marketing issue. In any case,I think that a .55 aspect ratio by todays standards is not at all "low profile", and in fact for passenger tires, there is not much around today that is higher. One last thing is justthe basic strategy of resale. You never know when you might have to sell this car. Why put on a set of tires that might give a prospective buyer anything to doubt? Even the least sophisticated used car buyer looks at and asks about tires.
