I had more or less the same short list last rear before I bought my Aero.
Jaguar - heavily based on the European Ford Mondeo (the V6 engines are from the Ford Duratech family). Prestige brand name, Ford quality, part of Ford's PAG group - here in the UK and Eurpoe they are really, really struggling to sell them with the factory in Liverpool running at around 50% capacity. The 'X' type is generally regarded as not being a 'proper' Jaguar unlike the new XJ which is gorgeous. The Jaguar's auto transmission is very poor, the lack of low down torque in the engine means that the thing is always hunting for another gear. The 'X' type smacks of cost/corner cutting quality - we often see 'X' types with broken fuel filler flaps - cos they are flimsy and made out of plastic. The 'X' type's handling is much vaunted in the motoring journals - when you actually drive one - even the Sport is a saggy/soft experience.
Saab - older model for sure but designed with very different criteria, high quality materials throughout - the AisinAW transmission is absolutely brilliant matched to the hi-torque Saab engines, better vehicle all round IMHO.
In the end, for me, the choice was really simple.
