Help---someone "keyed" my car at the trailhead,

only it wasn't a key; most likely a backpack buckle or an ice axe, and I'm sure it wasn't intentional. I got the mark off the windows; the glass wasn't actually scratched. But the black plastic on the doorpost between the windows is gouged. Unfortunately I made it worse by rubbing on it with a slightly abrasive cloth; it was wet and I couldn't see that I was creating more of a problem. So now I have a scratch plus a hazy dull area around it. Is there anything that will restore the original finish on that plastic, even if I can't take out the scratch? I was thinking of Armorall, but I don't want to try any more random experiments. Thanks for your help.
