I haven't seen many around yet (one to be more precise) but they're a pretty stealthy car, not that the old S4 was much different than the 1.8 or 2.8 in looks either, now that I think about it. I know yours was chipped, but its funny how Saab gets almost identical specs for their engine with one less turbocharger, 2 less pistons, and 40cc's less displacement! I know the 4.2 is a good engine, but I'm not too sure about mileage on that beast. Any idea how much the extra weight of the V8 is going to affect handling?
I'm not sure the handling comparison is fair between an S4 and a 9-5 Aero as the 9-5 is one size bigger. A fairer comparison would be S6 vs 9-5 Aero where I think the S6 would be quicker, but at what price? RS6 as you mentioned is better still, but it better be twice as good 'cause that's how much it costs! I'm still looking for that A6 in my rearview with the mesh grille!
There are a few options for handling on the Aero, I know Hirsch has some packages although I'm not sure what it would take to get it across the ocean. Perhaps check at Talliferro for Speedparts upgrades (I'm not sure if that's just engine stuff)
