The best tire really depends on where you live and in what road conditions you drive in. Living in New Orleans, I wanted a max performance summer tire that provided the best wet/dry traction. I don't drive in snow, and if I did, I'd get snow tires anyway.
After much research, that tire is the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. I had Bridgestone S-02 PPs before, which were the best tires I ever had-but the GS-D3s are simply better (so far). Their wet traction is unparalleled, they're quiet, provide good ride comfort and great handling. I've had them for over 5k miles with little noticable treadwear to date.
I considered the S-03s, but they were more expensive and didn't perform better than the GS-D3s. The Michelin PS2s were just introduced at the time I was shopping, and performed slightly better than the GYs in the latest Tire Rack comparo. But they were too new and had little/no owner comments, and they were more expensive than even the S-03s.
The GS-D3s are just amazing in the wet, and I can't say enough about these tires. We've had torrential downpours in the area off and on for the past month and these tires performed supremely well under those conditions. That's exactly why I bought them.
By far the best tire available, IMO. I seem to be the only one on this BB driving on these tires.
