job, the mechanic needs to center the steering by adjusting the tie-rods on BOTH sides.
Speaking as an armchair mechanic, what the alignment person should have done is first get the steering wheel centered with the center of the steering rack. Then lock the steering rack in place with the steering wheel centered and level. Then the mechanic can proceed to align the car by adjusting the tie rods for proper toe-in. Only toes are adjustable for the 9-5.
Theoretically, you could play with the tie rods so you back half a turn on one side but extend half a turn on the other and try to center the steering that way.
