Because the Saabs don't look aggressive enough or sporty enough in proportions. The Magnum looks mean and fast so the message works with their target market. I read that many of the people who buy them are coming from driving an SUV.
The best part about the Magnum is the hatch design which hinges forward of the edge of the roof to allow for a large opening, just like Saab hatchbacks, but the Magnum has the extra squared off space of a wagon, not angled off like the Saabs.
If I was totally neutral, I would consider the Magnum, but the interior is so plain and the plastics are nasty.
I can't wait for the 9-3 Sport Hatch. I wish I had one already.
