No heat during idle

I just did a major repair on my 94 conv. I had the engine out to fix a $7 gasket on my automatic transmission. After all that I was left with this small problem. I think that I may have connected the hoses to the heater core incorrectly. It would be one hell of a coincidence if the valve just happened to go at this time. Anyway, I do have heat when I am cruising. However, when I stop the air becomes cold.
What is the direction of flow? Is the upper or lower hose the inlet? Where should the hose coming off the pump be?
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Adam Spar
