Valve Cover Torque Specs Please?

for 1987 900t 16v. I am replacing the gasket and oiler nipples this weekend in my never-ending quest for an engine that does not leak oil.
This is allegedly a very easy job (which will be nice after the alternator bushings) but any advice is welcome. For example, how to really clean the valve cover so it looks nice, or other tips when doing this.
