I'm not sure that's a problem... Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Tue, 5 Dec 2000 10:31:28 In Reply to: Springs and Leveling, TD, Tue, 5 Dec 2000 09:19:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the springs on my '86 SPG last year with Jamex sportsprings, and the front of my car was definately lowered more than the rear. (Note- the '85-'86 SPGs had stock 900T springs and shocks)
I believe that this was because the rear springs of my car had started to sag, thereby "lowering" the rear. If you look at an old (pre-1985 or so) 900, you will see that the nose of the car is pretty high. You can just about fit your head in the gap between the tire and the front fender. Saab shortened the front springs somewhere along the line, but there was still a substantial gap above the front tires.
What's the mileage on your '86? Are you certain that your old rear springs hadn't sagged over time? Does the new stance bother you, or are you just concerned that something might be wrong?
I wouldn't try to change your rear mounting plug. If you really want to "level" your car, you should add an extra spacer to the front springs. If you are just a little unsure and nervous, relax and enjoy. The only trade-off for the enhanced performance is reduced ground clearance- be extra careful with driveways, car wash guide rails, speed bumps, etc...
