Below (hopefully) you will see a pic of how I did the speakers in my car. The sound is FAR superior to putting them in the doors or using the dash location.

Previously, I used a 4 inch component set on the OEM locations, didn't like it

I then tried 6.5's in the area infront of the door handles. The sound was better but still poor midbass response.

Next, I tried 6.5's in the door's map pocket. It sounded a lot better then the previous location but imaging wasn't as good. The sound was much tighter but still not what I wanted.

Finally, after listening to Adam (aka MrSPG) & my local shops installer, I went with kick buildouts. WOW!! It's extremely tight & accurate & I only lost a "little" bit of foot space, I actually don't even notice it :o) SQ wise, the imaging is almost perfect but not all there. I think part of my problem is that I went with 6.5's instead of 5 1/4's which could of been aimed more at the driver/pass instead of towards the middle of the car. But it's much much better then anything else you can do.

There are actually 2 sizes of 6.5 inch speakers. Some manufacturers (not many) actually make the speaker itself 6.5 (infinity beta series) inches across which makes the mounting holes slightly bigger then that. Most manufacturers make the speakers's width less then 6 inches so the mounting holes are more like 6.5 inches.
