Central locking not working

Hello all,
I have decided to post here due to the link from Townsend's site.
I have been trying to troubleshoot our central locking which is not working. We have a 1983 900T. All the help I have received has not panned out. This is because our car does not match what has been recommended. I tried to locate the control unit for the system behind the instrument panel, right side, not there. Then going on the docs at:
http://216.78.173.63/electrical_system_folder/centrallock.htm, it states that the ECU is on the floor heater duct passenger side. Not on my car:-(
Also, that doc gives instructions on how to jump a 3 pin connector coming out of the door to the engine compartment. Well, the only wires I see are 2 sets of tubular 4 pin connectors and 1 locking 2 pin. By thins time you might be thinking that I really don't have electric locks but I've seen the motors close-up in the drivers side door and the rear hatch. If you can help me out I'd be eternally greatful.
