Describe the driving condition where the noise is most pronounced. For example: Driving slow and making a sharp turn. This could be the bearing moving and is easily fixed with shims. Noise in a turn is more commonly a result of the CV joint gone bad, especially the right side where the exhaust pipes cook the grease out of them. Is it making a clicking noise? That is telltale sign of bad CV's. Bearings cost about $50 and rebuild CV axles cost about $75 apeice for parts. Good mech can do the job in an 1.5 hours, but the book probably says charge 3-4 hours. Fastest way to repair (Less labor cost) is to replace the entire axle vice rebuilding the axle. I got a quote for about $200 (parts and labor)to replace just the axle about 3 weeks ago. The bearing replacement can be easily performed at the same time because the mechanic has to remove the spindle to take out the CV axle. Good idea to replace it (at minimum repack with grease) if you have the CV axle done. Good luck.
