As far as I know, the only thing that changed is that, instead of just bolting up the tranny pan with all the bolts around it, the new pan has a "groove" around the edge, into which a torque equalizing plate fits- it helps to keep from getting too much pressure on any one area when retorquing the pan. If you are worried, do it yourself, but get the $30 green gasket (reuseable) and use Loctite 518 anaerobic gasket sealant as per the Townsend website. Just be careful torqueing the bolts. take a look at it first however, and make sure they are not screwing around with you. You may already have the newer pan and they just looked to see if there were any Service Bulletins they could perfrom and charge you for. The newer pan, you will be able to see the metal "strips" that run around the entire circumference of the pan, along the lip that the bolts go into.
