Gear oil in Trans

I have used Amsoil gear lube in a couple of cars with no problems, and I just read what Townsed had to say about gear oil in his service FAQ. Whant my Question is to everyone, is that a friend has it in his car and he lives where it is a little colder and he doesn't like the hard shift when he first fires it up (he's not very patient, no warm up) and I thought I would put racing 20-50 Amsoil in but Townsend said that the trans might die any thoughts would help.
