startup hesitation in 92 900S

On cooler mornings, when I'm too rushed to let my '92 (70K miles)warm up for 5 minutes or more before driving off, I find that the car hesitates and nearly stalls when I drive off. The gas pedal becomes almost unresponsive and the engine simply farts and sputters for a minute or two.....after which time, the car is fine and runs like a top.
I've gone through simliar problems with my old '85 900T, but it had an idle hunt in addition to the hesitation (not to mention a different ignition). I checked Towsend's Technical pages, but it only describes issues with the LH 2.2. Any thoughts?
