I' sure it isn't what you want to hear, but based on my experience, DON'T do it. I repainted my then five-year old cream coloured BMW 2002 (cost me $1500 in 1980, after spending about $3000 on parts, which is about a million dollars now) and then was happy to sell it for parts for about $2500 because it was more rusted than I had realized. You may not have the same rust problem we do in eastern Canada (Montreal). Repainting a classic another colour is bit like buffing and lacquering an old coin. My dream car was an Embassy Blue 89 Saab 900T which I came close to re-painting bu I opted instead to shop for a car with a better finish and fewer km's - I found a clean black 92 with 45k km's for $10,000 ($Cdn) which compares with $4000 for a thorough stripping down and re-painting. It isn't that good to find a good shop and I fell out of love with the BMW because of the indifferent paint job. I have since bought my own spray equipment, i.e. so I can do spot repairs, i.e. I am fussy so if you are a normal human being you might want to disregard my advice. You have a cool car though. Incidentally I have two sisters, both own Saabs, though one is married to a guy who drives a Jeep Cherokee and his relations think my sister is nice but why does she drive that funny old car (teracotta 1992 900S sedan)?
