Well, this is the thing. I bought the '83 900 Saab in september for $200. It only has 88k miles and its only real issue is a poor tranny which hopefully I'll be able to replace at some point. After I bought it I took it to a saab place and they told me the main pulley(harmonic balancer i think) is worn out and would drill into my oil pump if i didn't replace it. Is that a valid assumption? Anyway they replaced it and the car was fine. After it started getting cold the screeching began. As I said it goes away after I drive a while. I checked the belts for tension, and they have teeth on the inner side that don't seem to worn out.

I am a newbie at saab and car stuff but I love it and am learning as much as possible. This site is great. I am about to by the Bentley manual, is that a good idea for a beginner?

Oh and are there any Saab guys in the Twin Cities area, MN??
