budget drop

I've wanted to put drop spring in my 900 for a while now (89 base), and had the money saved to do so, but recently had to put the money in new tires and wheels (two tire with bad belts, one blown due to huge pothole. Two wheels with slight bend at outer lip, due to curb impact from ice, and one with large V notch in bead area due to above mentioned pothole). Anyway, I decided that it was best just to get a good set of tires and wheels now, rather than a cheap set that would have to be replaced again in the summer. I got a set of 5 spoke alloys at cost, good to know people in the business, and Kelly Charger HR directionals size 195/50/15. May not be a big brand name, but they handle great. Total cost, about $600. Anyway, before I ramble too much, I remember chopping coils for a cheap drop on previous vehicles, and worked pretty well. With the 50 series tire, I need a good amount of drop, especially in the front to look right. I'm thinking if I take 1 coil in the front, and maybe 1/2 coil in the rear, it should come out right. Anyone else done this? I realize this isn't the best method, and I won't be autocrossing anytime soon, really just looking for an inexpensive way to drop the car some, and get the look going.
