Hi, John,
If I were a welder myself, this would be a non-issue, but since I'm not, I'm going to need a partner-in-crime to make the mod. (I know someone who may do it for a barbecue dinner.) Sounds like a fun weekend project.
I'm going to scout around awhile longer before I do this -- still reading websites and doing some parts research. I'm in no hurry. But it does sound to me like the best solution I've heard so far would be to gut-and-pipe my existing cat, which will leave my exhaust system's outward appearance unchanged. (I feel so EVIL just talking about this!) I do agree with you, John, that my well-tuned Beastie without a cat would emit less harmful pollutants per mile than most of the trucks and behemoths belching fumes around here, and I'm using that logic to help rationalize my plan. I anticipate I'll still be able to look myself in the mirror when I'm done.
Thanks for your advice!
