Breakdown/Battery????

I have a 89 Saab 900 2 door automatic with 170K miles. I went out to start my car after work and it appeared that the battery died. I got a jump but it took awhile for the car to take the charge. I drove it for around 30 minutes (never turned it off) when the radio shut off and the car died. It seems like its the alternator or battery but those were just replaced last year. Could this be the same problem? No warning lights came on before all of this happenned. And when the car was towed, the hazards started off brightly flashing and then dimmed to nothing. Any ideas?
