biggest mistake I see people make when it snows is allowing the car to come to a complete halt on an uphill surface, even only slightly inclined. especially on packed wet snow this can lead to frustrating time spent spinning wheels and sometimes sidestepping, which will not only piss everyone else off, but can be dangerous if you need to get out of the way.
Other advice, the plow will go by while its still snowing, and sometimes you cant see that there is a tallish mound of very well packed snow at the end of driveways, etc. this can leave you precariously "hung up" just nosed into the turnoff. Only advice I can give is to carry a sturdy spade in the trunk so you can dig the stuff out from under the front end of the car.
I like to back into a space before it snows, its easier to pull yourself out than try to push backwards.
and if you start the car to defrost before clearing the snow off, turn off the radio, its easy to mangle the antenna with your brush.
Winter wiper blades can be helpfull, they wont get as gunked up with frozen stuff.
I like snowtires... Studs are not good unless its really icy all the time, as they keep the rubber from the pavement when its dry.
Sorry for the length, just things ive learned the hard way!
Good luck, buy a sled!
