I think that the issue is that the transmission in the Saab doesnt last the life of the car. Therefore we really notice when its going, because every other major component of the car is still going strong.

On the other hand, I think its rediculous that my 5speed had been rebuilt for noisy pinion bearings at 30K and now again at 130K miles. This is a base model, never been driven hard, no one has learned to drive in it, and it has been maintained.

The autos are a bitch, but there I think that most other manufacturers dont have much on Saab.

I almost switched over to the dreaded volvo last year when I bought my car. I found a 92 240 which was as well kept as the 91 900, also 5-speed. But the prices on good used Volvos around here are so high that I realised I could rebuild the Saab trans with the difference and drive a car which actually works on snow and looks sorta cool.
