The problem that I experienced for hard shifts into 1st and 2nd after stops is that the clutch doesn't completely disengage or some crank rotation is transmitted through a binding pilot bearing.
Poor clutch disengagement is caused by one of these:
a worn pivot hole in the clutch pedal (where the master cylinder pushrod goes through it). This is common, expecially in city-driven SAABs.
A worn master cylinder and/or master cylinder return spring (in the cylinder)
Worn Slave cylinder.
It's just a matter of going through each one and finding which one is the source.
