Randy and all-

All in all, I thought it was nice. I got all prettied up...lol and headed out to the dealer. Upon arrival, I watched 4 eager sales men's eyes followed my C900 to the other side of the lot. It took a while to get someone to walk over and assist me, mainly since they were so busy I think. Anyway, began the smooze about needing something newer, yada yada. Guy says ok, let me go grab the keys. Walks out, beep beep goes the Viggen. He said that he normally would go with me to answer questions, but said that it seemed as though I already knew a ton about the car. So if it was ok with me, he had some other work to do. I could barley withhold the SMILE on my face. Opened the door, and sat my ass down in some very very comfortable bucket seats. Turn the key..Vroom..more smiles.

Started out slow, out of the dealer, got to the first light, weird I was first in line¡Ktime to see what this baby has got. Selected first, held it at 1400 rpm, them let the wild horses run. First off, I was very amazed about how short 1st was; Almost like my 91 S but got there much much quicker. Once I hit second, chirping the Dunlop 2k¡¦s, it was all history from there. Brought it through 2nd and into third. Hitting the shitpoints right at 6k, down into the red. Before I knew it, or much less even cared, I was at 80 or 90, this was in a 40 zone none the less. Time to give the brakes a try, very nice feel, and little fade. Did pull to the right some, but figured that was alignment.

Next light¡KBrought it to 3k in 1st nicely, then shifted to second as my right foot slamped to the floor. Much better feel of the turbo, and less wild wheel spin during 1st.Next light¡K(this was the only time that I was HAPPY to the the red lights..lol) Brought 1st, 2nd, through nice, nailed it in 3rd, even a better feel.

Well I drove around town for a bit, then ran onto the highway. Taking a hard right turn with the right foot down in 2nd, is just terror in the pass side tire, basically leaving it back on the road and in the air in vapor form. I went back afterward and found a black strip about 3 lenghts of my C900! Wow, at the top end of 3rd and into 4th, this car really pulls nicely. At the end of the run, got up to 127 or so in 5th. At which point the radar detector that I snuck into the car began to slowly beep beep. Hit the brakes hard. 1/3 mile down the road¡Krolled by a nice pig monitoring traffic N and S at 65mph in a 60. ok, it was time to call it quits.

Got back into the lot, (took the radar off before I got there..lol) and turned off the beast. Sales man ¡§Joe¡¨ walks over, as I am trying to remember if there was that great smell of runner and burning smell when I left. Asks how it went..¡¨It is a nice one¡¨ He then proceeds to tell me about all the financing crap that they have. I then asked if he had any new Viggens on the lot. Said no, but they just got a new Aero in. (¡§YEsss¡¨) So it was Aero time. It was a 02 Aero Sedan, BBS rims, red paint, and an auto ƒ¼. Well let¡¦s take it out..

I felt it was nice, considering it was an auto, had very nice feel, but I really preferred the feel of the smaller Viggen.

My only complaint really about the Viggen was the simple fact that you just cannot resist the urge to hear that turbo whine and press you hard back into your seat. For me, I know that this car would amount to nothing but tickets and trouble, but felt that it was a very solid car, although had that twenty first century ride and handling that is not found in a C900.

I then went down to the Subaru dealer just for fun. I did my usual, and was out on the road by myself in less than 10 minutes (a record for me). Took out a 02 WRX turbo 5-speed which had the short throw shifter and such. (The car only had 12 miles on it!) I thought it was a very quick car, but definitely did not measure up to the Viggen at all. It was not hard to tell the build quality difference, felt through the raod feel, and just the personality of the car it self. Came back and began to look into Outbacks. Ended up, 6 minutes later taking out a 02 Outback wagon 5-speed with the 4banger. Not a bad car, although it had al wheel drive. Seemed quite pepy for what the engine had. And being a design off the Boxer engine, it was VERY smooth. Came back about 20min later after running up to 85-90 on the highway (in the opposite direction the Viggen). I complained about the lack of power, and then took out a 02 Outback sedan, 4 door, auto, 3.0 v6, traction control, and interior decked out (about $31k) I was very impressed with this car. Not only did it have a lot more useable power, it road much better than the wagon, I thought. Also, the McIntosh sound system with 11 speaker (including a sub) sounded very good, even at screaming high levels. If I were to get a Subaru, that one would be it.

One weird thing that I noticed about the traction control system on the v6, was that you could disarm it at any speed in any gear, but if you were in any gear other than 1st, and gave it full throttle, it would pop back on (light out on dash). The only way that I found to apply full throttle was to stick the shifter into 1st, then disarm it. Doing this would allow for minimal wheel spin, even when launching off the side of the road into a U-turn out of a wetish muddy type shoulder.

Overall, it was a nice day, got to take a few new cars out that I never had before and also had a great time driving them as well. And just to let you know, that I did actually drive each of these cars ¡§normally¡¨ for about 5 minutes to really gain the feel of them before I romped around.
