As I recall Dynamat makes several products. The "regular" Dynamat product is sort of a tar-paper-like product with adhesive backing. It is not sound deadener. This product is used to deaden the resonance produced in sheet metal. Used in pieces from a few square inches to dinner-plate size, it is usually put in doors, trunk lid, or other place where sound resonates. Mainly used by hi-fi heads.
I'm not sure what is out there for sound deadening, but this is not really it. It's also rather heavy.
