I´ve decided to use the christmas vacation to convert my '83 900 n/a 8 valve automatic to a manual transmittion. I've read through many of the previous posts regarding this subject, and have a few questions before I start hunting for parts.
)There has been a lot of talk about the (old) 4 speed transmittion being better than the 5 speed. Is this realy true? Should I choose a 4 speed rather than a 5 speed if I find one in good shape?
)Should I have the flywheel lightend before installing it or will that be asking for trouble?
)Would I be saving myself any work if I used the oppertunity to install a short-shifter at the same time, or is that something so simple that it doesn't realy matter if I do it now or wait untill the summer (I'd prefer to wait due to limited funds).
)How long does the conversion take (approximetly)? A good friend of mine will be assisting me the whole time.
)Any troubles that I might expect along the way?
