The screw that ted is referring to is on the front of the engine. I labeled it in the image below (engine is a 5spd '88 900 S which will be very similar but not identical to your car)

Bleeding the coolant system is easy:

(1) make sure you have diluted antifreeze (the normal 50-50 ratio of water to antifreeze) on hand
(2) open the coolant reservoir cap
(3) loosen the coolant bleeding screw and then add coolant to the reservoir until a constant stream of (probably neon green) coolant comes out of the bleed screw.

The bleed screw is copper colored and looks like a straw that bolts into another larger bolt. To open the bleed screw you hold the bottom bolt steady with a wrench and then loosen the top straw/bolt with another wrench. Crescent wrenches are useful for this task.

I wish that I understood the details of the fuel injection system, but I havn't take the time to learn that yet. I am not qualified to answer your questions about erratic idle. My WAG is that the O2 sensor affects primarily the amount of gas that's injected into the cylinder (it is used to calibrate fuel delivery by sampling the amount of O2 residual after combustion - it is screwed into the exhaust pipe) I think that it is certainly conceivable that a fouled up sensor would lead to improper gas delivery, which in turn would lead to erratic idle and stalling. Please note again that this is a guess.

I would advise you to seek out a book that talks about your car. Both Haynes and Bentley make a decent manual for the 900 and I know both companies produce readable manuals. Reading through one of them will give you a better idea of how to talk to your mechanic - or solve the problem yourself. The bentley manual is sold by amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0837603137/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0837603137&linkCode=as2&tag=thesaabnetwork)
